Black History Month Presentation: Erasing Erasure Join us for a special presentation with guests Aly Boltman, local historian, and Dorothy Abbott, of the Grey County Black Heritage Society and whose family escaped via the underground railroad circa 1850, as they guide us through the work that led to the recognition of more than 1,200 people buried in unmarked graves in Owen Sound’s Potter’s Field. Many of those people were fleeing slavery in the US, arriving in Owen Sound, the northernmost terminus of the Underground Railroad. Black settlers still faced enormous systemic racism in Canada at this time. Many were considered impoverished and required burial in Potter’s Field. The Potter’s Field project has won five awards, including most recently an Architectural Conservancy Ontario Heritage Award. Members FREE; General Admission Applies. This event will be held in person within the Museum’s Bruce Power Theatre with refreshments to follow and livestreamed on Facebook for those who would like to attend virtually.
